The Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists (IAPA) was formed in March 2006 by a group of Mumbai-based paediatric anaesthesiologists to promote safety and high standards in paediatric anaesthesia.

The association was initiated by Dr. Pradnya Sawant, then Chief of Paediatric Anaesthesia at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, Mumbai. The initiative was undertaken under the guidance of Dr. V. M. Divekar, a veteran anaesthesiologist and former Head of Department and Dean at T. N. Medical College and Nair Hospital.

Over the years, IAPA has grown into a vibrant community with over 1,245 life members and several state branches across India.
